Hey guys!

I don’t want anyone to think we don’t listen/read your thoughts on pricing very carefully, so I thought I’d chime in on why things are the way they are.

On Competition … First of all, as I always say, you should always go for the solution that’s best for you. If there is a competing site that can provide better returns than FlashDen, then of course you should start putting files elsewhere. We welcome competition from sites like FlashComponents and Ultrashock, because it helps grow the industry, provides a range of choices for authors and keeps us on our toes :-) I just happen to think FlashDen is and will remain the best place for stock Flash!

Why the Rates are this way … We believe that we have created a rates system here that compensates authors AND enables FlashDen to build and grow the site to then provide even more returns.

Sure we could give a larger percentage, but then we wouldn’t be able to grow and market the site, to improve the site, to keep it quick, secure and stable. And the more people who are buying here the better the returns.

You have to remember that percentages are only one half of an equation. A larger percentage of nothing is still nothing while a smaller percentage of something can be significant!

Another thing to remember is that there is always more to a business than meets the eye. It’s a little like when you go into a restaurant, look at a menu, look at the prices and go ‘wow I know how much potatos cost and meat costs, these guys are making a huge amount of money’. Whereas in reality there is equipment, rent, staff, etc etc. And as we know restauranting is one of the hardest businesses around!

Likewise on FlashDen there is actually quite a lot of expenses that go under the hood. The bigger you get, the more additional things start appearing.

FlashDen the Business … As people have mentioned, FlashDen is of course a business, but profits are not our goal at all. We are all about growth. That’s why for example none of the founders took a single pay check for the first year. We put everything back in, to build, build, build!

You see we believe that by building FlashDen, and soon its sister sites, that we can create markets where authors can buy and sell things they couldn’t before. Where creatives like us and like all of you can create an extra income stream that wasn’t there before. And that buyers can build on other people’s work to deliver better results for clients, build better portfolios and generally be awesome!

Of course it’s easy to talk, but its much harder to back it up with actions, and that is exactly what we have been and will continue to do.

It’s been quiet here … You may have noticed that FlashDen has been a little quiet in the last few months in changes and developments to the site. The only thing I can say in this regard is that it’s really the calm before the storm :-)

... Anyhow I hope that goes someway to helping clear up why the rates are what they are.

And while I’m here, can I just say that today I looked at the forum page and realised there have been almost 20,000 posts here. Holy moly! 20,000!! It feels like not long ago it was 200 :-) I can’t wait for it to get to 100,000, I think we’ll have to have an international, online party
