there should be a mechanism in place for authors to be able to report offensive behavior and for bogus ratings to be removed. This would be beneficial to both authors and customers.

agree, that’s exactly what we’re asking for.

Yeah that would be great to have this but who will judge the issues? I don’t believe Envato be able to do this because once this system starts working, they should have hundreds of request per day… Unfortunately, I guess it’s not possible to do this :|

A mandatory explanation of a low rate (1 and 2 stars) would be enough. If the explanation is tenuous then the author could ask for a removal. The worst thing about this rating system is that votes are anonymous, so authors can’t neither contact the users to ask what they didn’t like about the product.

As a customer I’d be more than happy to justify a low rating with an explanation, and like comments these could be moderated for abuse.

Agreed it’s more work for Envato, but if you’re going to have a ratings system then it’s got to be trustworthy, otherwise you might as well not bother.

Have any of you ever watched the hotel inspector ?

She gives hoteliers advice on improving their service. The main bug bear is usually the restaurant menu. Her advice, reduce the amount of choice, and concentrate your efforts on making 5 superb menu items.

The analogy is of course, stop creating new marketplaces, and concentrate on improving the function and form of your existing marketplaces, because your competition are leaving you for dust.

My advice: Fix.

1. search

2. prices inc the $2.00 surcharge for Paypal buyers. ( we all know you get a heap of interest off those balances sitting in your account ) so reverse the system, and allow paypal buyers to get at xyz price ( no surcharge ) and those that deposit funds, get a marginal discount or credit for every $20 spent )

3. fix the bloody ratings, they are a joke.

Theres a model in business called Pareto’s Rule. 80% of your business from 20% of your clients.

Envato could effectively beat this rule, and generate substantially more income from more buyers.

I am a prolific supportor and buyer of marketplace items. But I too get cheesed off by wanting to buy say $7.00 item when I have a $5.00 balance, and face either a $2.00 bloody surcharge for using PayPal, or having to add $20.00 …

So I give it a miss.

Effectively, your system only works for authors, those that accrue a balance in their account from selling items, meaning their acct balaance increases, allowing them to wait a day or so, then buy an item from their balance ( without the need to add funds via a deposit, or using PayPal )

Which is a flawed model, as its the non authors who are the biggest proponents of buying ! ( read up on Paretos rule )

Ratings are a joke, I cant even rate the shitty fish and chip shop down the road, on tripadvisor, without being accountable for my actions. If the ratings stay as they are FORCE the raters to give feedback. The rating may not change, but the feedback, can be challenged, addressed or dismissed, by authors , staff and would be buyers too !

I am available for private consultation, no paypal tho as the surcharge is huge ;)

@Australia – you missed a REALLY big thing on the fixes list – Shopping cart, but as I mentioned in another thread last week after the video update and mention of the envato marketplaces website I’m presuming it’s one of the reasons we won’t see (and haven’t in all the years of asking) one for a long time until all the marketplaces are under a single roof.

I didnt wanna complicate matters pmsl. Plus a shopping cart isnt a fix, its a request ( and we all know where they end up )

I haven’t read through all the replies, so this might have been mentioned. But based on the topic title:

As I see it the Rating System is total nonsense for AudioJungle. A buyer buys what she likes most, a buyer can actually hear what she buys before buying. Why would she buy that well-liked item, and then not rate it the maximum value? It makes no sense. Like: “Oh great track, exactly what I need, I’m going to buy it! I’ll rate it a 1 or perhaps a 2 rather than a 5 though, because it sucks…” (?!)

Based on my local copy of the AudioJungle Marketplace which is quite up to date, most sales aren’t even rated, though there are plenty rated. How is this fair? For a buyer will naturally first click something with a high rating, rather than the ocean of non-rated stuff. This also means that authors/items that have been around here longer have an unfair advantage over newcomers. They’re more in the spotlight just because of these ratings that make no sense.

To add to this: all uploaded material is subject to review. If it would suck, meaning it would not even be worth 1 star, it should not get accepted in the first place. Maybe it’s just my way of thinking, that I miss something obvious, but to me this is all nonsense and highly unfair for AudioJungle. We’re all affected by a nonsense chance in that buyers may or may not rate an item, and again, any rating other than a 5 is just nonsense.
