When looking for suitable templates I can conclude that it is very hard to really know how flexible a template really are. In many cases you can´t change the homepage very much without edithing (which i dont want and cant do).

How do i know how much flexibility there are on the hompage? What to look for, are there a special “line” with more flexible templates than others?

Okay, I’m trying to help you here.

What are you actually looking for in a theme?

Hello Steinitz,

It all comes down to asking the developer how they implemented the homepage, through a page builder, or a page template? Then, you can figure out if you can turn things On or off in the page template through theme options, or build your custom homepage however you want using the page builder.

In my opinion, page builder are more flexible and easy to use for customers, therefore, are more popular here. But a good technique behind the code of a page template can outdo a page-builder if done properly.

I don’t know if I left you in a fog or not, but I just wanted to help you get a grasp of how things are built here in general: using page templates or using page builders.

Paul

No one can give you good general response, because each theme works in a unique way. In any theme you should be able to set up any page as the homepage, this is how it works for my themes.

The best thing to do is to ask the authors of the theme you’re interested in exactly what you’re after.

Below is a link to some sort of starter for the homepage.

Since I believe the work is iterative and many people involved i´m sure that the final page will not look like this. Therefore i look for the flexibility.
