Hi, I currently have a setup of MacBook Pro 13” with an 21.5” external screen of LG, and very bad speakers. (7 years old I think).

Now, I would like to get a new worthy 23-24” screen and a new set of speakers.

I would like the speakers to be beautiful (if it will fit the MBP or the monitor will be a blast), even if they are not the best quality. Budget: 70$

Now, I would like the monitor to support 1920×1200 and also nice looking (Although unlike the speakers, I prefer quality over look), maybe something to fit the MBP . Budget: 400$

Now, do you know something like that? And will I notice a big different between my current LG Flatron W2243T and the new monitor?

Thank you very much in advance! :)

I’m not sure about monitors (currently researching one for my MBP and leaning towards a high end Dell Ultrasharp), but here are the speakers I’m using and they’re awesome:

http://www.amazon.com/Bose-Companion-multimedia-speaker-system/dp/B000HZDF8W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1325948296&sr=1-1

The price might be a little beyond your budget but they are well worth it.

I know the speakers are out of budget and the monitor is too but you can’t put a price on quality. Plus, you can’t get 1920×1200 for under $400 without getting an off-brand that will stop working. The speakers have been recommended by many TF authors, and I can say they’re worth it.

The best thing you can do when choosing speakers is to select a few of your favorite songs (the more versatile frequencies and genres – the better), go to a local audio equipment retailer and play them.

This way not only will you hear which speakers play more accurate, but also which play sound that is up to your taste. For example, some speakers might have a bit tighter highs and some people don’t like that, even though for the majority of people the sound will be “OK”, “clear”, “great”, etc.

In my to-buy list for next month there are speakers listed, but I won’t suggest them, since I am buying them specifically for sound monitoring.

By the way, why is the price difference between 23’’ and 24’’ displays so large, compared to the difference between 21’’ and 23’’ ?

@Jami – Thanks, didn’t really like the look of the Bose. About the monitor, let me know please :D

Thought about Harman Sticks, but it costs too much for a guy like me that don’t use the bass a lot. (I only hear music and I am really not a savvi so I don’t need something complicated)

About the monitor, also thought of that one, but I think I prefer the 2412 because of its price. What do you think?

@cmt – Unfortunately I don’t have a local audio equipment retailer in my city.

I know they sell the Dell Ultrasharp at ivory.co.il. Maybe they can set up a demo for you to chekc out. I’ll probably buy from there once I get back in Israel.

Here’s a run down of all the Ultrasharp models available by Dell (not sure exactly which ones Ivory has available):

As far as I remember, I didn’t read good things about the 12 series, I believe that was the newer LED model (worse contrast / gray shading than the 11 series, which I will be buying).

But the difference is not that that big, both are IPS displays and that’s what you need. Don’t even consider a TN panel display, except if you intend watch it strictly from 90 degrees.

Actually I do, it’s gonna be right in front of my eyes.

@Jami – Yes I know, I’ll buy there or from KSP .

About the Bose, didn’t like how they look and also they cost too much where I live. (almost 200$)
