If we are not allowed to use TimThumb then we should use WP built-in resize functions or to find another script(like fresizer, aqua resizer, etc.). But, for me here is something, that asa I know, only TimThumb is capable to do: resize external images.

So, how can we resize external images without timthumb? Sometimes we need this. Example: I have a youtube video gallery and I can get the thumbnails directly from Youtube(via API) and resize on my server, because on youtube they are available only in a few sizes and maybe I need other sizes, also.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

And why would Aqua resizer be accepted while timthumb not?

Don’t ask me.. I’m not the reviewer :D

Though i also was rejected each time for stupid reasons which came out of nowhere. There should be a list with items that make your theme not eligible for the approval process. Because otherwise this is just mocking from the reviewers.. We can’t comply with what we do not know..

We’ve build our own yesterday and it works flawlessly. It uses wp native resize code. We’re only using it for our slider images. We tried both scripts above but none of them worked on mu set up so thats the reason we started to make one ourselves.

Only downside it has is that timthumb also resized the images from small to large. WP native one only shrinks, so the end user needs to consider this when loading there’s images. They have to be big enough or else it won’t resize.

New theme is loaded this morning, so wish us good luck.

Ok but we still can’t resize images from external sources or create thumbnails from youtube videos easily. This is pointless since timthumb bugs were patched months ago and it works just fine.

By resizing did you mean cropping? Does the timthumb crops the external images automatically or what?

For example I’m creating in a theme a gallery with images either from external sources or from any folder from the WP installation. WP can’t handle them if they’re not inside the wp path and since they weren’t uploaded via the media library or set as featured image to any post, how would I resize them? Timthumb does this job just great so I really can’t see any issue why this won’t be approved. Timthumb also works great for youtube / vimeo thumbs.

Well guys, I was always whining about low quality standards. And about increasing them :D

But anyway it’d be nice to know when “rules of the game” are being changed :)

I’ve contacted one of reviewers asking to comment something on this question. Hope we’ll here from him soon.
