Dear fellow ThemeForesters,

I need your help! This layout is a One Page Portfolio, the navigation is fixed and flows with the page (multiple navigation for current page visualization). It’s for PSD category but uploading them there was mainly a knock knock in kailoon’s door if the design is good or bad in general..

This version has been rejected:

1) All the graphics and typography will need a lot of improvements.

2) The idea is good but the execution will need improvements.

3) Consistency is the missing piece in this template.

I asked for more details but unfortunately did not get any.

So I started to work on the issues he pointed out. I added consistency (at least I thought) by adding one style for all the images (black border) and I sticked to grey as the main color. I also changed the typography completely. But the result has been rejected as well:

Your template’s design does not meet our quality standards at this time and will need significant improvements before it will be ready to be reviewed again. You might consider taking a look at some of our popular premium items to get a better idea for the quality level of graphics, typography and general design that we require for approval.

At this stage in the design I am, unfortunately, not able to provide more specific feedback other than what I’ve stated above (the design needs overall, general improvements). With further improvements I may be able to provide more specific feedback.

I asked for more specific feedback, but I guess I am not the only one doing that so I did not get any..

So this is what I am working on atm, I am not satisfied with it yet either.

Can you please help me and push me on the right path?
But please don’t push too rough.

Thanks a lot!
GC

Hi GC,

The template you are working on shows obvious progress from one version to another! As you might know, the psd category is one of the most difficult categories to get into, so maybe (after one more round of revisions) you should code the website for HTML /CSS category.

From looking at your mock-up my main impression is that you concentrate more on the background and less on the details that actually compose a website (typography, other graphic details like buttons, spacing, etc). I mean if you take away that lovely background you got almost nothing! If you could combine those backgrounds with more attention to other details it would be better. I also don’t think the font is good – I mean the colors suggest something delicate, feminine, but the font says more like “luke, I am your father” :)))) if you know what I mean…

By the way, I think those backgrounds would look good on GraphicRiver :) Why don’t you first try there for some encouragement, just to see the sales starting to roll…

Hope this helps :) Gabriela

Dear Gabriela,

thank you so much for your honest and kind words! You are right, the details need some love.. I feel now the gradients are way too strong and you are so right about the fonts. It might get better if I use font #2 on background #3.

According to the PSD or HTML question, my goal is HTML category if not even WordPress, yet I wanted to try to get a little feedback before I start coding, so I uploaded to PSD . If it belongs to the trash I would not have wasted time on coding. If you know what I mean. But I felt like kailoons first rejection message was encouraging enough to try again :)

If you don’t mind giving me a hint on the spacing issue. I tried to use some kind of grid throughout the theme, is it the horizontal spacing between boxes? Or like the vertical spacing between blog posts? Would be so nice of you to tell me.

Thanks a lot,
GC
