Hey guys!
You probably know the procedure.. You create a file you think is great, and then when the time comes for it to be uploaded, it gets rejected (twice, once after improvements..) for aesthetical reasons unknown to you.
Obviously there’s a whole bunch of tips and comments in the e-mail the reviewer sends you, so you can improve your file.. or is there? After looking at the popular files, as recommended, I still didn’t know what to fix about the graphics of my game.
I emailed the reviewer, but as he’s a busy man, he hasn’t replied yet.
Perhaps you guys know what could be improved? Here’s a link
Any feedback is welcome!
EDIT : Obviously the forums-only watermark isn’t there on the actual version so don’t bother mentioning it
EDIT 2 : Hey! I now notice I didn’t include that javascript file that comes with publishing .html! Perhaps that’s the problem? Would’ve been great if the reviewer had mentioned that.. Sending it into the queue now to test if that was it
Still, comment!

Improve the background, improve the card background, add real live poker cards background or something, would be much better, uhm, change the tooltip, that looks really odd …
Starting page looks really simple and hurts my eyes at least, black and green… hmm… add a rollover to the cards, when you roll-over them make them rotate x = +/- 15 degrees… something like that…
That’s what I say at least. Give it a try. See if other people agree with this.
Add some sounds maybe?
Also the black text does not match with the green background. It has kinda of a hard contrast

Thanks for the feedback! I changed the background colour of the page to a more suiting grey – I hadn’t really put much thought into it as I guessed people would look at the file and not the preview page.. but perhaps it’s important after all.
Card-graphic-wise I tried to keep them as simple as possible as this is greatly influenced by own taste.. I’ve used this deck of cards with great succes in other files on here.
A rollover on the cards? Why would you have this when there’s no action when clicked (except for when selecting them, when they grow bigger when selected).
Regarding the first page.. I guess you’re right, that needs some work! I aimed at functionality (= fitting text on it) too much there.
nice game, i think it looks fine… sure it could be improved. but there are much worse looking files on the den… in fact your other card game is not quite as nice and that got approved!
that said:
- choose a nicer font and change its colour, black on green is a bit harsh
- you need a much better background, with a bit of texture like a real card table
- make your shadows a bit more subtle
- add a subtle gradient to the hearts and maybe a little shine detail
- your start page needs some work, maybe break up the text with some cards and more structured bullet points
- your speech bubbles are a bit clip artish

Exactly! That’s why I was so amazed I got rejected on this one!
Anyways, thanks for the tips guys, they’re surely helpful!
If anyone has anything to add, feel free of course

That’s great! Message sent – if only to see how it was done and learn from it
I guess I’m graphically still somewhat weak.
By the way.. how do you guys recommend adding an image as a background for example, without making the filesize go huge?

I’ve got no message
Those images (with some tweaks at colours) can be reproduced inside flash using gradients and filters
