That said, it would be nice to receive earnings in different currencies, instead of losing money on poor conversion rates set by banks :) Although, I’m aware I can only dream about it :D

Well, someone will have to pay for the currency conversion at some point. So, either you, the buyer, Envato or the bank.

But yes, it’s always nice with more money. :)

I always hated (and still do) when a certain product (computer, phone, camera…) costs way cheaper in USA than in Europe. People should not be discriminated only because they can (or can’t) afford to buy your product. Therefore, if currency conversion ever gets implemented around here (which I doubt it will any time soon), then it should never be set at 1:1 ratio – that’s why forex rates exist. You’re looking at it from a buyer’s perspective, if you would be the owner of the Euro shop that sells these camera, phones, pcs… then you would need to pay min salaries to your salesmen/women that are higher than the min Salary in the US (+ you need to include VAT, shipping costs…) but here we are talking about digital goods and I’m still curious to get someone’s feedback about point 2:

2- Giving Authors the right to select the price of their item based on a range that is pre-defined by Envato

Well, all this discussion doesn’t seem to make sense….
...that’s why I suggest everything should be charged in Swiss Francs.

A rock solid currency! I’m sure when all other currencies collapsed, it will last a few more days :P

never going to happen because of one simple reason: prices would be dumped very soon to achieve more sales (like you want to do, too) and all prices need to adjust to keep up with that. It’s good that envato prices the items theirself and doesn’t let the authors ruin this market for everyone. Prices here are already very very affordable.

So you agree it is all relative e.g. different countries = different salaries, shipping etc. Therefore also different overheads so if buyers form poorer countries should get cheaper files then the authors form there should be paid less too right???

By the way the theory about 3% buying at $3 or 1% at $15 only makes sense if you are selling a seriously big number of files and far more than most authors do on here (irrelevant of how cheap you make them).

To answer your point “2” – envato have to control the price setting for various reasons but primarily so that authors do not create unfair advantages over others, over or under charge deliberately, and most of all because they are a business and so they retain control of what is THIER marketplace. Allowing random, unorganised pricing would cause chaos, upset both buyers and authors and generally create a bad perception of the market.

p.s out of interest – and this is NOT an attack it is a GENUINE question… would someone mind telling me how much it would cost to go to a developer in India (as an example!) and ask for a fully functioning WP theme that looks and operates as good as they do on here?

My guess is still more than $50 so technically everyone is still getting an amazing deal here either way???

I am not allowed to promote my items but I can show you a whole list of incoherence between the pricing of some of our items compared to other competitor’s themes, you’ll simply realize it’s not logic, because no matter what you add to your WP theme that price won’t be higher than $60, while others create external plugins to resell them on Codecanyon. I personally prefer to have it all included within the theme witout seperating certain features as external plugins

so one of our competitors has a plugin sold on codecanyon for $15 we included the same option without our theme and only got a $5 increase after requesting it + there’s also a lack of transparency with pricing sometimes

so I think that we should have a minimum of flexibility to define the pricing, + Authors will adjust the pricing in concordance with competition

anyway thanks for your feedback, I’m out now… Cheers UOU Apps
