Hi all,

I just wondered if anyone here uses a framework to build WordPress sites (not themes). I’ve seen a few around and just wanted to see if anyone could recommend one. Ideally something simple, bear bones like twenty ten/eleven.

I use starkers.. It’s more of a starting point then a framework, but it’s really simple, so it suits my needs really well..

I’ve seen that a while back and had a quick look but must re-visit. Thanks!

Thanks, one question – do you use it for theme creation also ?

If you want to use Skeleton (which I highly recommend), I would strongly recommend rolling your own WordPress theme/framework rather than using that theme. I’m sure it’s fine if you’re building a one-off site, but if you’re building a theme for mass production, you need to adhere to WordPress best practices. Quick example: that theme dumps stylesheets straight into the site head rather than enqueueing them. Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but based on that header.php, the html tag would be printed twice (?!).

If you want a great framework to use as a starting point, check out _s :)

You’d be amazed to see how many themes on TF have all styles and scripts embedded twice :D
