I don’t normally chime in on the forums with sales figures after major changes as I think it’s possible to read too much into short term numbers and it’s generally better to make decisions based on broad strategy that is informed by numbers – not the other way around …. but ….

Because of the nature of this change – i.e. it was one forced on us, not a plan/policy – I thought I would give some numbers from ActiveDen.

We track cashflow statistics in a number of ways, but the one I pay attention to the most is our weekly deposits per site as it is usually ahead of the curve compared to sales data (which is a mixture of people using old deposits and new ones).

At this point we are four days into the week beginning on the day the name change took place. Extrapolating from those days we are on track for a record week for ActiveDen.

What makes this amazing is that ActiveDen has been surging very high since the redesign. Generally these things go in ebbs and flows – a grander scale of what a few authors were talking about when they say ‘some weeks it goes up and some it goes back down’. So a record week after a few record weeks is particularly good!

October as a whole (extrapolating the last 8 days out from the first 22) is set for a huge 10% increase on the previous month. This is really big for a site as old and large as ActiveDen.

As pdesignx says we have redirects on the old domain so there isn’t any traffic being lost. Instead what has happened is ActiveDen got a boost from posts on all our sites, a TechCrunch mention and a mailout to a hundred thousand people :-)

We’ll be paying very close attention to how we fare on Google, and general traffic – as we always do.

You might also be interested to know that traffic between marketplaces has doubled since the redesign. I believe this is because of the easier / more obvious marketplace switcher. What this means in practical terms is that we are introducing lots of new buyers from other marketplaces over here and vice versa.

So overall things seem to be going really well which, as you might imagine, is a great relief after such a big and sudden change!

If I remember correctly Cyan mentioned that the old domain would be taken down eventually. But if this ever happened all the links out on the web pointing to the site with FlashDen urls would end up going nowhere.

come on guys… you are trying to be statistical and trying to talk clever

This was my main point. I wouldn’t consider it clever :P
