I was looking around FlashDen and had an idea for ThemeForest, on FD you can sell things like preloaders and image galleries etc., so why cant we do something similar on TF, people may want to buy a drop down navigation menu for example so there could be a market for it, what does everybody else think?

hi simnor, first of all, congrats to be featured on TF :).. I think the most of the people like full templates and themes and the meaning of ThemeForest is also “Site Templates and Themes”.. thats what you searching for if you come to this site

and when now we split that out we have so much galleries and other apps, that can’t see all these beautiful templates

I mean if someone want to integrate a gallery in his template he bought here (as example)... he can buy some flash files and integrate/insert it with help of this tutorial from Nettuts

this site is so beautiful but to overload it with applications, galleries and some other things would be really awful

I dunno, I kinda like the idea. I see what iDraw is saying, but that’s why this site, like FlashDen, has categories. You can drill down to what you want.

And FlashDen doesn’t have issues with having components, why would ThemeForest?

I think it’s a great concept!

Thanks a neat idea simnor. Selling themed icon sets here crossed my mind and I asked myself a similar question.

I believe there is a market for such components.

2jscheetz I mean okay its a good idea, BUT what kind of components would that be? you know.. a invasion of similar components would be awful… someone make a login or a gallery component and then you see 10 of them that look the same on TF…. from our themes, every theme or template looks different and thats very nice.. plus IF we would now have so much components, and I know that could happen, the Home Page of TF would show less templates and themes and more components.. and that would destroy the whole concept of TF, and the themes wouldn’t sell much

the point is there must be really creative ideas that are useful and not any boring galleries or other things that you can buy on FD, you have some tutorials for menus on NETTUTS and for icons you have the way to insert flash icons that is showed too on Nettuts… a market for components like that is FlashDen… I repeat, you can insert any flash file in your blog easily

the idea is good, but which components would be good for selling is another question

I don’t see the problem either. Menus, galleries, a JS-based tab switcher for recent news, whatever – it seems like the market determines what we’d sell, and, using Flash Den as an example, there’s obviously a desire for compenents rather than entire sites.

Could definitely be a nice addition, certainly as the site develops I think we can look into things like this!

We’re launching tomorrow so I’m excited to see what transpires with buyers and their habits

Yeah I would have to totally agree with Simnor. It seems that Flashden has a tons of success with dynamic menus, news viewers amongst many other things. I’m looking at popular files on Flashden (top week) and out of the top 32 only 4 (6 in the past 3 months) of them are full templates, granted there all in the top 9 but still there is only 4!
