Sorry that i have to share this :( ..

Reason this is going on all marketplace is since i figure we all work with computers here, i am guessing i am not the only one that purchased this new chipset series from Intel. (sandy bridge)

Basically Intel released the new generation chipsets with a design flaw that is not fixable through updates/software. Read more here..

Just giving peeps a heads up, for those in question i advice to prepare to replace your existing motherboard in a couple of months..

I have the exact same model you are thinking of buying ( loving it ), the problem lies in the chipset of the motherboards designed for this new generation of chips. While tested it seemed that the life expectancy of the SATA controllers (old ones) where failing within 2~3 years. It is not such a huge deal for me but still… Intel is losing at least 1billion here with this flaw.

So actually I would need to replace the MB after 2-3 years and not the processor ( don’t think I will last that long without wanting to upgrade but still.. )

Which one do you recommend 2600 or 2600K ? I don’t need overclocking or integrated graphics..

No worries m8, your core i7-720QM is unaffected by the flaw, the flaw only exists in the new generation chipsets codenamed sandy bridge.

If you are still planning of buying it, you don’t have to worry since they don’t ship the flawed chipsets anymore, they corrected it and all the existing owners are getting recall notifications.

The chipset is utilized in PCs with Intel’s latest Second Generation Intel Core processors, code-named Sandy Bridge. Intel has stopped shipment of the affected support chip from its factories. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue. The Sandy Bridge microprocessor is unaffected and no other products are affected by this issue.
