I’m creating this Thread to have a place for people to pass on some knowledge.

Where do Designs come from?

See what you like, learn to create it – do it.

Do you copy other people?

Sometimes, I see a Design and I want to Emulate it, be like that – that’s the only way to become better, “Become What You Aspire to be”.

How do you start?

I see, I mentally sketch and prepare on paper or mentally – along the way I change directions.

Who do you learn from?

I learn from as many sources as possible – including other artists here on Graphicriver.net

Where do Designs come from?

Design comes from nature. Design comes from music. Design can come from anywhere if you have abilities enough to find it.

Do you copy other people?

No. Copying what others make hurts my dignity as a designer in my vision. Of course, many designs are similar sometimes but if you like something, create something of that high quality, which make people wow. Don’t create something of that same style.

“Create your own visual style… let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.” — Orson Welles

How do you start?

I mentally visualize the concept, prepare the basic structure in software or paper and then start when I feel like . It differs from project to project though.

Who do you learn from?

I try to learn from every place I can.

BTW nice topic GraphicStudio. :)

Where do Designs come from?

Typically from any form of inspiration. Music, reading, or seeing something that catches my eye.

Do you copy other people?

Blatant copyright? no, As far as for learning or getting ideas, yes. “Bad artists copy. Good artists steal.” - Pablo Picasso. I think for comfort we may say we don’t copy, but truly nothing is original.

How do you start?

With an thought, idea, color, or typeface.

Who do you learn from?

Lately, the envato network… :D but typically from old solid design.

Where do Designs come from?

I feel that for me, everything comes from the heart, you think and build with your brain, but you feel with your heart. You feel that you have to design/draw/illustrate/play music/build houses with your heart, and after that you start to process that idea.Of course others think differently but I consider this to be my point of origin for everything I do.

Do you copy other people?

..hmm.We learn from the best, and essentially we become the best

How do you start?

Dadaistically!

Who do you learn from?

Everyone !

Well, I didn’t think everybody [almost everyone] would follow my Q & A Layout. I just thought a thread named ‘Secrets of Graphic Design’ should contain insight for other readers. Great replies from all of you!!

But listing any tips or tricks in your own way works too!

My most utilized inspirations come from:

I love Print Pieces for inspirations – but with the Internet, I find that I spend more time online then I do with a Good Book or Magazines, that’s a shame too!

What’s the best way to learn Photoshop?

My favorite was always going through the First Tutorial included with the manual. Once you get the feel of the layout of the application, layers, filters and so on – the next step is just playing around with it! Layers upon layers upon layers to see how unique it would become.

How do I make my art more appealing?

Depends on what you consider appealing. The masses think they like what is pushed towards them. Andy Warhol wasn’t a really Great Artist (in my opinion) but he was able to get his work in front of peoples eyeballs!
