I think it would be beneficial if there was an option to see who bought your templates, I know there is an option now but it’s very vague, there should be for example a list that only you can see with who bought it that certain day, maybe in the Statement.

It would help us see trends and message users if there is an update to the template or something is wrong with it. Also it would help us see re-curring buyers and offer some sort of rewards to them.

Just a thought, let me know what you think…

I don’t want to be a buzz kill here but I do believe that it is Envato’s policy to allow buyers full anonymity unless they contact the author via their contact page. If they choose to contact you, you will have their user name and email address. This is a relatively new feature and authors have been instructed to be careful with this as there could be potential for abuse by unscrupulous authors. I take this as protection for the buyers from unsolicited communications. This feature also allows the author to verify that a buyer has actually purchased the author’s work when requesting support.

Certainly spamming your buyers is not what you are asking for, but I believe this policy is in place for the potential few that could mess things up for the rest of us. I’m not sure how Envato could give authors access to buyers without that safety in place. If that were possible, that would be cool I’ve gotta say. Just not too sure about that as a reality.

why not just have an option when you upload updated files to send all the buyers an email notifying them of the update.

@ cssdesigns, that would be awesome. We needed to update one of our templates for a mistake (by us, totally our fault) and really didn’t want to leave our buyers upset. It was our mistake and really wanted to make things right as quickly as possible. We couldn’t do that with the tools currently available and as a consequence are still hoping those needing our update have found them. We did what we could to notify those buyers of the update via the template page but have been concerned that those buyers wouldn’t normally revisit that template’s page while cruising for additional templates.

Again, in our situation it was fully our fault so we can’t ask Envato to make up for that mistake, and also understand that any buyer might prefer their anonymity. Perhaps at some time buyers could “opt in” for update notifications. That way giving the buyer the option of giving out their contact info or not?

Erm, and uh let me say right off that I would have no idea at all how to code all that happiness, but it would be cool.

To the OP-

I see where your coming from, and it would be awesome if we could see who bought our templates, but to be honest, I don’t think it’s ever going to happen (unless they contact you via your user contact form).

Envato wants the buyers to feel secure and as if they have their privacy (which one could argue they deserve since they are purchasing). I see the logic in this thought process.

As twoaz1 said, it would be great so we could update our customers on the progress and updates of our theme, but I really don’t think it is going to happen. Until then, we can only do what we can do, and add updates to our current themes.
