Hey guys,

As you might know, there have been reports of Authors making purchases of their own items. This is not something we allow and it’s made clear by a warning that is issued whenever you try to purchase one of your own items.

Here are a few major points we’d like to address:

1) We want to make it clear that it is not permitted to purchase your own items to ramp up sales and ratings. When you purchase your own Items via multiple accounts it leaves traces. We are aware of this practice and even if you have not been warned, we are investigating the issue across our Marketplaces.

2) We want all items to be fairly represented to both buyers and the general Community! We believe that the practice of purchasing your own items numerous times is unfair towards fellow Marketplace authors. After the investigation is complete, the consequences can range from a one-time warning, to account disablement in case of repeat offenders. We are big advocates of fair competition, and really believe that it is for the best of all in the end, to have a fair chance at it :)

3) If you suspect there might be any actual issues with the purchasing system you should simply contact Support and we can assist. Taking matters into your own hands in this case is counter-productive, as you’re breaking the rules in the hopes of verifying an issue that we should be creating a fix for.

4) You do not have to purchase a license to your own files if you intend on using the item in question for your own clients outside of our Marketplaces. This is covered in the Licensing FAQ’s which can be found here: http://themeforest.net/licenses/faq (Particularly under “Author licensing FAQ”)

We just wanted to make sure that this information is clear, and that no future misunderstandings can get in the way. If you have any questions, or suggestions with regards to possible scenarios that might genuinely require the ability to purchase your own item, please ask, and we will be more than happy to clarify.
JUSTIFIED RATINGS:

Hi,

thanks for pointing this out, there’s another important point that ENVATO could perhaps monitor, it’s about authors who buy their competitors’ theme to rate it 1 OR buyers who purchase a template thinking it was a theme, rate it 1 + buyers who don’t even take the time to read the documentation and rate it 1

So what we’re proposing is that when a buyer rates a theme under 3 stars he/she should justify the reason by selecting among a list of radio buttons / check boxes + the possibility to add a comment (or by including a sub-rating based on documentation, customization flexibility, number of bugs…)

Looking forward to receive your feedback Cheers UOU Apps

Clap GIFs assembled in single thread. :sunglasses: hahaha, is it possible for anyone to predict this before posting a thread? Even if the thread had a title of “Post the clap clap GIFs here”, it would be hard to assure!

I’m a first! :P

We really don’t get this place, updates for things like this is are not meaningful for us buyers. We’ve been here for over a year and the buying / user experience has not been enhanced at all. I’m beginning to think this place is all about making authors happy, not us buyers.

don’t worry is not, they don’t want to make us happy, even if will be great if that was true :)

many authors asked improvements for buyers experience for quite some time now, more than an year that’s for sure.

But the marketplace is slowly improving, is not fast enough but is improving.

I don’t know what marketplace you are principally purchasing from, but for example on videohive we finally have a player that works on mobile devices with no need of adobe flash

For themeforest they are introducing new standards for wordpress themes so buyers will have less problems in using items.

So why no simply allow authors to buy their own items but with ratings off and ignored by purchase counter. Even better would be a button next to your item that downloads your file with purchase code generated, or just gets you purchase code… And I don’t know how your support forums work, but it’s probably possible to add your own codes for your private clients in db and get your verification form to check codes from both Envato and your own db… Or I’m wrong?
