Will this notification work for all the comments or only for replies of a main comment? I believe GravityDept was asking for notification only for “replies” – as that is the only scenario a typical ThemeForest author want immediately notified.

It’s both (others have requested notifications for all, they want to be responsive to all comments, to answer pre-sales questions fast, etc). If it’s too noisy, authors can turn this one off. Another request is to be able to subscribe to a comment thread like buyers can (and like anyone can for a forum), we’ll get there :)

Hey, can anybody check what’s with the error page in the files comments section?
When you post a new comment (not reply) you get the Error page that something went wrong. But the comment is posted fine.

I just tried a reply and a new comment on someone’s item, worked fine. Where are you commenting from, the author dashboard? Your own item? Someone else’s item?

My own items. From items comments section. I tried different markets and the result was the same. It works fine on comment “reply”.
Post Comment > Woops, Something Broke Page. If I go back on the comments page and refresh the comment is there.

LE: I tried commenting on other author files and it works fine. Seems only related to own portfolio.

Can somebody else try making a new comment on his files and tell if it works? :D

Yes, same error happens here.

Fine, the subscribe per item option may be helpful for those who disables notification due to the noisy part.

If I comment on someone else item and if he is replying back on that comment I will get the mail?

And if yes, what about showing the comment discussion in my dashboard?

We just shipped this feature today. There’s more to do, but this is one piece in place.

Awesome, looking forward to testing this out.

We already have that feature in place, sort-of. If you create the comment thread on another author’s item, there’s a checkbox to get email notifications when there are replies.

A missing piece here is being able to subscribe to a topic that you didn’t start (perhaps you’re interested in the outcome, perhaps you’ve joined the thread).

Regarding the new comment notifications to authors by email: http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/item-comment-notification-emails/89855

This is already really helpful, but there are some improvements I’d like to see integrated:

1. Better subject line. Currently all comments on my items are getting bundled together in Gmail’s threaded view. This is really confusing because there’s no consistent chain of communication. I suggest changing from this format:

[ThemeForest] New comment on your item “Acumen”

Change to this format:

[ThemeForest] New comment on “Acumen” from username

This is better for two reasons. First, Gmail will thread messages per user so a conversation stays properly grouped. Two I can setup filters to automatically label all messages pertaining to one item or another. If you put the username before the item name this isn’t possible.

2. Tell when the user purchased the item. I should be able to retrieve this information just like for direct messages. See example below. Aside: direct messages should include this info directly in the email rather than forcing me to click a link just to verify.

3. Better organization of message content. Right now the message content look like this:

Hello!

username left a new comment on your item Acumen>

This is the user’s comment. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

username has purchased the item.

You can reply to the comment here: LINK

This can be improved a lot. Lead with the user’s message. This appears in the preview line of most email apps and gives a hint of the message in tiny notifications on phones. It’s not necessary to repeat the username or item name before the message. This is already part of the subject. Lastly, use some separators so it’s obvious where the comment ends and the notification details begin.

This is the user’s comment. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

Great suggestions, only one of which I’d already spotted :) This should all be fixed pretty quick.
