Yesterday I moved some of my sites from Shared Hosting(Dreamhost) to VPS and, what I can say, I’ll never go back to shared hosting.
What do you use to host your sites? Shared or VPS/Dedicated? *red arrow is the time when the domain propagated to the new server.

For themeforest and other such sites we use the Server XL 6 on the 1and1 dedicated servers which can be seen here:

https://www.1and1.co.uk/server-dedicated-overview?__lf=Static&linkId=hd.subnav.dedicatedservers

For our business clients we use the Server XXL 16

In 3 years of being with 1and1, they have been amazing quality.

The only thing you need to know, unless you click managed dedicated server, you need to know a little about servers.

It does not cost anymore, it just means if you want to install apc caching or any other things you have to go through them

Luckily we do so this is not an issue for us.

Affordable hosting for quality servers.

We believe you get what you pay for.

If you pay only $50 a month for a server, then you only get $50 worth of server.

Yeah, that’s why I switched to VPS, the speed was horrible. Now on VPS is ~0.6ms. Really happy. :)

I’ve been on the hunt for a new host since MediaTemple sold out to GoDaddy. I’d love to know who other elite authors use for hosting. I’ve looked at Host Dime, wpEngine, and a few others, but I can’t really dedicate myself to moving all those sites over to another server. Any advice from others?

You can take a look at DigitalOcean or Linode. Both are very good and their knowledge base is very rich.

I think you were on a poor hosting company, there are some shared hosts that work just fine if they’re a good company that doesn’t store 100’s of sites on the same server..and divide resources properly.

:) however, being an author here would probably involve having a VPS. For not only speed, but for total access. I’m recommending intovps.com for people that know their stuff with Linux, the prices, quality and support are extremely good, but it’s unmanaged.

@UBL I’ve worked at 1and1 for like 6 years, believe me when I’m telling you that you pay too much :) for what you get.

cheers!

Yep. VPS here too. But the response time is just the cherry of the cake. Think about processing speed, server side optimizations (gzip), better web server (think about nginx), and so on.
