Yep. VPS here too. But the response time is just the cherry of the cake. Think about processing speed, server side optimizations (gzip), better web server (think about nginx), and so on.
Nginx is very good, I should agree, but is also hard to configure and it’s language is not very user friendly. I lost more than 1 week trying to configure nginx to make it work with Wordpress MU Network, but in the end I gave up because always there is something that didn’t work as expected.

I’ll share another screenshot. That’s something that I wanted to see when I was about to switch on VPS and couldn’t find such graphics that display the real response time. Hope someone will find it informative. As you can see on VPS things are more than stable.

how much ram did your vps have? i thought a while to do the same, i am at dreamhost shared hosting too, so far only good experience with dreamhost.

Right now it has 1GB, but I’m thinking to upgrade it up to 4GB. Not needed so far, but I think is a good idea to protect myself from possible issues. Reference: https://digitalocean.com/pricing
