I’m experimenting with Photoshop today, and I discovered a nice trick.
Maybe you all know, but for those who don’t know, here goes:
Grab a vertical striped pattern, and make a background with that, like this one:

And then go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and apply this settings:
Angle: 81
Distance: 999
You will get this:

Playing with Angles degrees you will get different effects

That’s pretty cool, I’ll have to try it 
I’ve learned the most on Photoshop & Illustrator when I’m just messing around. Those applications have so many features, it seems overwhelming at times. So, I stay content just experimenting with them, and once in a while, you find a new technique or process to add to your back of design tricks. I have learned the most from tutorials though, they are truly great resources.
