Should designers be really creative?

Okay, I don’t mean to be sarcastic but when I looked at so many web designs here (wordpress & site templates), they’re all almost the same in layouts (though I should say some of them are really stunning). The only differences between them are just the pictures (photos/images) and colors they use in the template, not the layout. Only a few designers made a big or completely different layout/design though (sadly) some of them are not good enough in features or supports. Don’t you think that designers should be more creative? (I know it’s a bit idealist) or it’s just a matter of market demand/trends?

^ Yeah.

Also it’s quite risky to put a lot of time and effort into something extra unique when you know (or don’t know) it is not gonna sell like regular stuff.

Uniqueness is more of a custom design thing.

Also, it’s not easy to be creative when you have no limitations.

Yup, just look at the top selling themes and you will understand. Also, it’s quite hard to come up with so many unique layouts, considering how many items we have here in TF.

Well, I have to admit it that demand/trend over the arts (beauty, aesthetics, uniqueness, etc.). As I’ve found in the top 10 sales (wordpress) templates, only one that has a significant difference in layout (it’s king size if I can say) with good rating. Sad but true.. it’s too mainstream, but thanks a lot for your opinion.
