I bought SitePoint book “Simply JavaScript” and Im on chapter 3 right now, but I dont know anything to code. I know just a basics of variables, data types, booleans, functions etc. but thats all theory. I cant build anything than 2 + 2 in variables :S

Should I continue reading or I need to go back at the beginning and read again. I know theory, what is what and what something do.

Thanks all.

Is the book meant to be read for complete novices? I always like to re read sections when I feel that I haven’t understood them fully. I have a 1000 page python book + mit courses that I just watch and rewatch.

I don’ think you should worry. You will catch on to new things as you explore different examples through out the book.

Good Luck!

The best way to learn coding is trying, trying and just a little bit more trying :) You can’t just like read the book and to know to code, you need to learn on practical examples.

For example, try to make a script that prints a letter, than a word, later try to make a script that reads your input and prints it 3 times, than try to code some simple math. equations etc.

It’s all practice.

The way I would look at this – this book is the ABC ’s of Javascript. Once you finish it you won’t be a pro but it gives you the knowledge necessary to do and learn more advanced stuff like a framework like Jquery that will allow you to do amazing stuff relatively easy etc.

I would also take BatVfx’s advice and make sure to practice everything new you learn instead of going through the book like you would with a novel. And later take scripts and deconstruct them, get a feel of how a real world use script should be designed and coded.

You will be a pro if you keep at it.

well.. Python is defined as general-purpose high level programming language, so basically it can be used for anything you need.

But mainly, Python is used for web applications development and as scripting tool inside some software.

For example in 3D programs that support Python script you can create animation expressions instead of keyframing the animation manually. For CINEMA 4D check this link:
