Another update for you all.
Vahid and I had a big conference call with the hosting guys (something more difficult to organise than you’d expect being in different countries/timezones) to work out our plan of attack.
Tomorrow morning around 9am-ish our time we’ll be taking the site down briefly to update some drivers in our RAID array and to add some extra measuring tools in there too. That should be a very short outage, no different to when we usually update code.
From there we should have what we need in place to do the hard drive upgrade and ideally this should all be finished within a few days.
Let me put it this way… I took this photo of John five minutes ago: http://bit.ly/jUtSh
And yes, that is how I look right now. Thanks all for the patience and support – not long now.
Cool. pretending I know what all that means
A couple of days ago now the disk reboot happened and we’ve had no downtime notifications so far. We’re pretty confident that the disk problems have gone away.
If you’re still noticing site slowness post back here and we’ll investigate a further.
As an added bonus – we also switched our previews over to using Amazon Cloudfront – which should speed up all the previews, especially on VideoHive where the speed problems have been especially noticeable.
Im guessing this was the reason why i had such trouble uploading over a week ago that the system was struggling. the upload kept crashing after 30 – 45mins i went through this about 8 times before success! Got there in the end though.
Good to be kept posted though on all your progress!
There’s going to be a 30 minute outage scheduled for 4:59pm AEST for our hosting company to swap out some faulty hardware in our rack. Sorry for the late notice, but we only just heard ourselves. We’ll put a timer up in a few hours so everyone gets loads of notice.
Im gunna hold you to those 30 minutes, do you realize how much in therapy all these site outages is costing me
So that’s 8 AM over here…I’ll be sleeping. Hey it’s 3:06 AM, how nice.
