OK, I tried searching the forums for an answer to this, but I couldn’t find anything. I am going to convert one of my Wordpress themes to a non-Wordpress version. I know this new item will go under “Site Templates.” My question to you all is, does it have to be HTML ? Or can I make the files PHP files and use includes for headers and footers?

I have seen site templates using PHP files, but my advice would be to have it all in one file rather than includes. It’s a pain in the butt I know but you’re doing the right thing.
You’ve actaully done it backwards, most do the site template and see how that sells rather than do the Wordpress version – and do yourself (and sales) a favour, leave it at least a month before submitting the HTML verssion.
Your on fire huh! lol

If you include a complete CMS to manage the template… it’s going on MISC category.. and one of my template is with full cms… the sales are not good in this category.. Better way is to include just a PHP form to contact page…and include header and bottom for a php version. Good luck!

you should be fine with a contact page in php, that’s acceptable – if anything thats a huge, huge plus for your theme.
you sound like you have your head screwed on, you won’t have any trouble with sales just keep plugging away trust me.

One thing to keep in mind is if you do end up mixing some php into your site templates (meaning they will have a .php extension instead of .html), be sure to select “php” instead of “html” as the file type(s) included as this can confuse buyers that cannot use any php on their server and is more common than you think
Edit – Best of luck with the non wordpress version of your theme
