10 * 0.999 is not 9.999, but 9.99
9.99 – 0.999 = 8.991
8.991 / 9 = 0.999

.. so 0.999 equals 0.999

You have a logic mistake there. You are working with both the unknown variable x and with the known one x when you say X=0.9999 10x – x = 9.9999 – 0.9999

It shoud be Y = 0.9999 10x – y = 9.9999 – 0.9999

So no 0.9999 = 0.9999 unless you say 0.9999(9) ~= 1 (approximation)

Just my 2 cents on the matter :)
