Hello all,
I need some criticism for my template that has been soft rejected twice. Here is my original design: http://defonic.com/templates/novax/
1st Soft Reject Response
Soft Rejected Reason: Definitely a good start here. However, there are a few aspect that required your attentions: There are a few inconsistent spacing/padding as well as alignment issues throughout the design. I’d like you to go over it with a fine toothed comb and weed out these basic design issues. The content area is pretty generic and plain, and it will need more imaginations. http://webdesign.tutsplus.com/articles/design-theory/understanding-visual-hierarchy-in-web-design/
So I made my changes and read the above tut (very informational). Here is my update: http://demo.surgd.com/html/novax/
And then I resubmitted for review… Although what I had thought was a great improvement, I then received the following response:
Second Soft Reject Response:
Reason: You are receiving that message because the resubmission doesn’t show any significant improvements. It did show some changes. The overall design is generic and it is lack of uniqueness. We already have a number of submissions with the same overall design and concept and we have to draw the line somewhere. Minimal templates can be clean and simple when you manage to handle the white space and details to provide a simple but yet unique template. But if you can’t, it will look like an incomplete template – blank template.
Does anyone else agree that there was no significant improvement?
I’m not trying to sit here and whine and cry… I just need another set of eyes here to improve my design. I strongly believe criticism is for the best and I appreciate the feedback and do listen to all feedback. I know the reviewers can’t sit there and explain the details in extent so this is why I am asking for some feedback.
Thanks in advance!

2nd version much better
Here’s some feedback:
The main menu could probably use some work. Specifically, the text inside the buttons. I’m also not crazy about how the buttons look when the page is scrolled.
The left side of the header might look better if it were centered vertically. Same thing with the “See Why” button.
The paragraph text in the “specs” should probably have the same line-height as the other paragraphs on the page.
Lastly I’d think about animating the page scrolling when the buttons are clicked. And I’d also fade in those tabs when clicked.
Hope that helps. Good luck

That helps a lot. Thank you!
Hi Defonic !
Yes second version is better
. You have 3 main issues, problems (for me):
- Spacing (lot of elements are not well centered -> menu buttons)
- Global style looks outdated and not worked (menus, buttons, widget area….)
- Fixed menu looks very weird when I scroll, just the buttons follow my screen, whereas all the menu should following my screen, because actually it’s looks bad (sorry for my english, hope you’ve understand :P)

I must admit, this template sucks some ass. I’m not afraid to say so as some designers. It is funny when you stumble upon an old ‘dev’ folder or an old cd disc and see what you were creating back then compared to what you create now. Every time I see my old designs I’m like “what was I thinking?”
Thanks for the responds everyone!
