Thanks for sharing… sometimes the customers just think simply that the design process is somewhat so simple that they can have just thousand choices to choose one. Like mass productions… that kills creativity…

My Spec Work goes like this:

the client comes with a problem “I cannot seem to get the module to work”, but he/she is in fact trying to change the DESIGN himself, and because he/she has no idea on CSS and Firebug, comes to ask me to do it for free. How fun is that?

Thanks for sharing the video, I also agree with the video. And it is sad how designers really do get ripped off a lot of the time. And people wonder why we charge so much.

But then ThemeForest came into the picture and saved the day! :)

I do remember when i first started i did a lot of these sort of competitions and it was great for improving my skill, but one thing i found was you could never predict what design the client would choose, i remember winning a few. The people who ran the competition also choose what they felt were the most impressive item and i won this more times.

The main problem was the time you spent not knowing if you would get any money, so it just was not sustainable, but overall i feel it harms the industry more as it deflates the perception people have of designers time.

would be interesting to get other people experiences with this?
