I was highly disappointed. They tried to make it exactly like the LOTR trilogy when in reality the books were written very differently from each other. That being said, I loved the giant fight in the mountains, and Golum was the star of the show.

While I agree, I think too much music was used from the original trilogy and not enough new stuff was introduced. I understand the importance of motifs, but I wanted a little more to be honest…

Damn you guys are haters
I loved it! It made a lot of really vital improvements and changes from the original story (the inclusion of the backstory and the extra villain to tie it in with the main LOTR trilogy). Nothing was changed that wasn’t in the overall spirit of the novels (and the back story was grabbed from his other novels and appendices). I just finished the book and I was more worried that a movie that followed the novel line by line would be really boring to watch… the changes that Jackson made were really well done IMHO.
As far as the music goes… It’s the same universe, so it’s only natural that the music will be similar… the same thing was done with Star Wars and pretty much every other major film series. The theme tends to stay similar for the sake of continuity… that said, they used the dwarvish song as the main theme of the movie, not the original LOTR theme, so I don’t see the issue. And while we’re at it, the dwarvish chant song in Bilbo’s house was one of the most frickin awesome film moments that I’ve seen in years… to take simple text on a page and turn it into that sort of spine chilling moment is incredible.
I saw it in Real3D – I’ve heard lots of bad stuff about the HFR version, so I’ll probably just do IMAX3D if I choose to see it again.

The LOTR trilogy contains three of the best movies of all time. I grew up on The Hobbit and read the rest of Tolkien’s work as an adult, including The Silmarillion. I love all things Middle Earth, and really enjoy Jackson’s work. I don’t consider myself a hater at all. I hope you were talking to the other guys
