I think that Thematic is okay to use here. Ian Stewart, the creator, open says to use it for whatever you like… (though I can’t find where I read that but it is completely GPL ).

In this case, how about the use of Thematic in our admin panels, will that pass TF’s approval process? is that also being protected under the “morality clause”?

After reading the license, then you can see the case of every themes.

- Thematic is a parent theme. You can create a child theme for Thematic and sell it here, but you need to educate your buyers to download Thematic first before they can use it (Some TF buyers don’t like this process). If you only need Thematic admin panel, you need to recode it for yourself.

- Genesis Framework is a parent theme. You can create a child theme for Genesis and sell it here, but you need to educate your buyers to buy Genesis ($60) first before they can use it (Some TF buyers don’t like this process). If you only need Genesis admin panel, you need to recode it for yourself.

- Hybrid Core is a core theme framework (with admin panel and SEO feature). You can include it in your theme. It is completely brandable.

If you only need an admin panel, OptionTree is a good start….

Re: Thematic, etc…

Correct me if I am wrong but you can use any GPL code in your theme simply by including it. No need to recode. Thematic is full GPL , which means you can modify it as you like, though obviously you inherit the same license for your own code.

In my term above, recode doesn’t mean full recode. I mean if he needs Thematic admin panel only, then he needs to modify the thematic files, remove any “unused” code for his needs, then include it in his theme… that’s what i thought before…

I’d just like to clarify if I’m understanding this correctly, that Anyone can buy my theme, use code from my theme, then resell it?

In most of cases this code is useless. So don’t worry.

If you want to use Thematic I recommend using Thematic Options Panel which is also full GPL and totally free to use in commercial projects.
