I have a problem when coding an element from the library. I’ve loaded it into the stage like so
var footer:footerContainer = new footerContainer
addChild(footer);
footer.alpha = 0

It’s not making it transparent. I’ve tried adding this before the addChild, after it, tween, and the strange part, above everything else I already define another variable for the menu and that worked like a charm.

I even tried defining the variable as a movieclip var footer:MovieClip = new footerContainer , still not working…

Anyone else experienced this issue?

Has the same identical properties to the menuContainer. :| They are 2 separate movieclips in the library called onto stage in the same way…. menuContainer.alpha = 0 responds to the command, footer does not :| this is driving me crazy.

try monitor it’s alpha value see if really something changed it after constructed? for example :

var footer:footerContainer = new footerContainer();
footer.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, checkAlpha);
footer.alpha = 0
addChild(footer);

trace('init alpha check = ' + footer.alpha);

function checkAlpha(evt:Event):void
{
    var footer:footerContainer = footerContainer(evt.currentTarget);
    trace('enter frame alpha check = ' + footer.alpha);
}

I forgot to embed the fonts in the footer. Now everything is working smoothly.

when I saw your title, I knew this must be something with font embedding… This has happened a lot of times for me also :) no relation between the font embedding and alpha not working! but that’s what happens!!

and another wired thing about alpha… when you’re trying to load some external sources, like I donno, YouTube video, it is probable that some of your sprites which have BitmapData calls in them, would automatically disappear!!! that drived me crazy for 2 days!!
