Suggesting bigger typefaces for themes

Hello,

I was reading http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/10/07/16-pixels-body-copy-anything-less-costly-mistake/ and they suggest using 16 pt for body copy. I think is an interesting article and I encourage authors to increase the typeface!

What do you think about it?

99% of people will stay deaf. Tiny unreadable font size is a trend, go fight the trend, no chances. TF themes were mentioned in this article, but it did not affect anything, trend stays steady.

I don’t agree with “unreadable”, since our themeforest reviewers do lay a lot of focus on readability, contrast and typography.

thanks for the suggestion. I read that article some time ago, and it certainly gave me an incentive to increase the font size of the typefaces used in my latest theme, which should start rolling out very soon.

Our latest theme uses a font size of 14px for this exact reason It doesn’t work on every design, but if you match it with a good vertical rhythm it works really well!

They said that people sit “about 20 to 23 inches” from the screens, but I don’t know anyone who sits that far back.

I guess maybe.

One of the problem is a lot of the themes are targeted at designers and if there’s one thing we designers love it is small type.
