Quick info: Requesting additional weekly popular section which shows only newly released – popular items – ofcourse for ThemeForest only.

Themeforest approvals are improved a lot and the homepage presence/exposure of files day by day becomes short. The same is true for “All Files” and subcategory listing pages, since every file moves down faster than before. Just a suggestion to highlight/expose comparatively unique files (and mediumly selling ones) to get increased exposure:

Whenever a Theme is a lot unique and high quality, most cases it manages to reach a good number of sales in the initial 2-3 days. But later fells down either due to 1) Low user demand or 2) Least exposure due to queue movement. Although the reason #1 is fine but losing sales due to reason #2 can be addressed. Also such short time exposure doesn’t help a file to gain enough momentum to enter weekly Popular page as the list of popular themes are very high these days.

If there is an additional popular section which lists only newly approved ones, it will help:

1. Better exposure for new items with promising initial sales (even 20 sales week is a good sign). That initial sales proves it has deserved potential/qualification/attraction for special listing. Any file with 0 sales in 1st week most probably will not make sales even on popular items list.

2. Buyers get another guaranteed section which shows only new themes. Usually a new theme means more likely it will follow very recent trends and features and recent approval quality requirements. This helps buyers to pick new yet popular items easily.

3. It is impossible to manually pick unique files and help them to get better exposure. However, since such files make a decent sales on initial week and this section will help those files to get extended exposure.

4. Consider that this “only new and popular” listing will show most different files than the usual weekly Top seller page or 3 Month’s popular ones. Because the newly popular section will show a file only for one week. Not more than that.

5. Start this section only to display all files – hope this section wont need for individual categories any time soon. Importance of this section is it can even show 2 recent week’s new-popular files and expandable.

6. Finally this is easy to implement and exactly automated like current popular section – no confusions! :)

Just observed from last 2 week’s recent file’s sales number and I confirm that it is pretty easy to showcase alteast recent 2-3 week’s new popular files with decent number as base cut-off. (In 2 weeks, around 50 files having more than 10 sales but mostly manages to miss regular popular page entry)

This will really help the medium-top sellable files which misses popular page entry as well as moved away from initial exposure in a short period.

Totally agree with VF. At nowadays there are too many new items get approved on the same day and popular files go out too fast. I think Envato staff already working on some kind of solution :)

I suggested this since it is very easy to implement – in terms of least possible coding / testing. Just a similar page like weekly popular but filters from recent 2-3 week’s files. And then linked under “All Files” main menu and Community menu. Kind of 2 full days work – maximum; nothing more than that – from an outsider’s view.

And I am not serious about whether it will be implemented or not. Just suggested as I felt it is very simple with big result (than taking risks on home page) for current situation. ;)

Of course your idea is good, but knowing that this is Envato (and no official reply from the staffs yet), I don’t see this feature getting implemented within 1 month, or probably 1 year, or worse, eternity.

Even a request to move the search box into somewhere more visible (i.e. closer to the centre) has just been ignored.

fully automated, easy to implement, a perfect way to handle home exposure issues we’re facing nowadays. I’d love to see this quickly implemented.

Good idea.. I mentioned something like this before a month ago..

“Trending new items” or “What’s hot” row on the home page. A row of 10 items, which only shows recent items with the most sales within a certain time frame, like 2 weeks. The ordering is based on the time frame, time of sale and amount of sales so unlike the popular files page, the ordering is 100% fair. . When the time frame is over for an individual file in the row, its removed from the row.

So it’s kinda like a filtering mechanism, taking out the best recent sellers and keeping them a little while longer on the homepage, so they can have better chance making it onto the popular files page.
