Hi

My recent template got rejected by the reviewer – fair enough. I was wondering if you guys and gals would be kind enough to spend a few minutes to give me some feedback on what you think to the design, and any specifics you think i could improve to get it accepted.

I assume I got a standard-ish rejection email - “This template has a nice concept, but does not meet our approval standards and will need to be significantly improved before being reviewed again. Your template does not provide a unique enough design with the necessary design quality, features and options to compete in the marketplace at this time. As higher quality templates become available in the marketplace, approval requirements will increase to maintain appropriate marketplace quality. This is inline with our recent change in internal reviewing policies….........”

Any help or advice on the design would be gratefully recieved…

Many thanks, have a good day

Jeff

Ever heard of time differences? Anyhow, your template is not only generic, it also has bad contrast, bad gradients, bad typography, bad hierarchy, bad graphics.

But don’t worry, many many many people started with such a theme and improved themselves during months of rejection. Stay enthusiastic and keep on working on your design skills.

All the best!

thanks for your comments…

i actually didn’t think the layout of each page was all that bad, or the colour scheme, but I’ll look again at the colour choices…

many thanks for your time Melfor…

Hello Jeff, you are good graphic designer, sell well your graphic items here, how it did happen that you forgot to apply your graphic skills to this template?

Header (part with navigation and logo) and footer are good to my opinion, but starting from slider part and further, everything needs much more work. Some subtle textures may be for backgrounds, more attention to typography–text colours (dark grey is fine, but you can use may be different shades for headings and paragraphs or to find another colour solution at all), set of icons for the home page…–I would not use it… And I would use some more interesting concept for the whole layout, this scheme is overused already.

Wish you good luck and for sure you can create something more outstanding, you have full potential for this.

I’ve been a designer for 14 years but am ramping up for my first submissions to Themeforest (I should be asking your for advice! :), so feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but I think you have a good framework but need to give yourself a leg up with a few basic items.

- It might be me, but for my regular client work, if I get an awesome logo to work with, I can kick out a site mockup for instant client approval in less than 5 hours. If the logo sucks and doesn’t inspire me or is an odd shape that is hard to place it can derail my creativity right there! Think about giving yourself some self-inspiration and redesign your Evolve logo – keep the gear idea but maybe can the rainbow colors?

- a lot of the images in the slider seem out of focus other than the 34 Street sign, that might not be doing your design justice right there – photography can make or break first impressions!

- Get new icons… ha ha, just get new icons ;) Especially watch how Our Work and Downloads have box type icons, but Vacancies has an icon seemingly half the height. Visually this creates what almost looks like an alignment issue (if the strings on the hanging sign popped a bit more or were darker it might add more weight to that icon to balance out the row, but maybe not worth it)

So, in review, in my opinion, the logo, photo, and icon elements, if improved first, will at least likely inspire the rest of anything else needed!

Thanks!

Thanks very much for the replies everyone…

I’ve updated the design, added subtle textures here and there, played with the colour scheme a lot and am getting quite happy with the way it looks now…

any other advice?

cheers

Hi,

you have great technical skills, lots of features…. but i am not so fun of the design part.Logo is not so good, also i am not so fun of the colors and textures, they are not so subtle, so photos are not working so good with it. Also on footer part where you have Links and you hover over than Click here is not readable. You need to work on the look of the page. Technical is good but optical you need to work on it ;).

Hope that this would help a little ;)

Sorry on my english :)
