I did some Wordpress conversions for an author here on Themeforest (an extremely popular author), for which he owes me a large sum of money. This work began in November 2009, and ended in January 2010. Payment was meant to be done in mid-February 2010.

This author has still not payed me a cent. After many emails to which he didn’t reply, he said that he would pay me in three installments in Feb, March, April. He didn’t pay in Feb or March.

Again, I emailed him a few more times. Finally, he replied on March 16th, saying that he would pay me, in a few days. Its been a month and 7 days, and he’s stopped replying to mails again.

The author was pretty strange throughout. The themes I converted for him sold very well, but he didn’t seem to care; there were bugs reported in the comments, but he did not fix them. I voluntarily, without being asked sent him bug fixes, but he didn’t implement them.

Despite all this, he hasn’t paid me a cent. What can I do about this? I think its extremely unethical and unfair.

Nothing really, never hand over files until money (or at least half) in in your hands.

I think that wouldn’t be such a good idea. It:
  1. Is unethical
  2. Has legal implications (slander etc)
  3. Means that I’m sinking down to his level

I have to say Rohan is my coder and he did an AWESOME job.

I had a really good relation with the other author and he’s the one who suggest me working with Rohan and I am gratefull for that, but then we don’t talk anymore since he didn’t want to pay him and I think this is really frustrating situation.

Rohan trusted us and did and awesome job and I am paying him for everything he did for me.

He is young and maybe he was naive but he couldnt accept money until he was 18 so he better take the chance and work rather than not working at all and I really respect that.

I wont say names but I hope he will have the dignity of paying what he owe.

Of course it isnt but it is Envato interests to keep this place fair & nice … I hope :)

Like VagrantRadio says, you should always require a small payment before sending the final product.

I’ve learnt my lesson, for sure. Envatom however, won’t involve itself in an outside dispute.
