You know, when someone doesn’t spend even 10 minutes going through the documentation, thinking that they will press a big red button and the theme suddenly will look exactly like the demo. But then again, that doesn’t happen. And they decide to go this way:

“If you help me set this up, i will give you 5 stars”.

How do you handle this people?

Personally, i stop providing support to these users immediatelly.

Just had someone try to pull something like that on me today.

He was asking for a customization, making it sound like it was actually a bug with the theme. And when I told him to hire a freelancer for customizations (since the theme doesn’t have that feature), he went threatening that he would ‘revise’ his rating.

Lucky for him, he used foul language in the forum. So he’s out.

It’s not exactly similar to your situation, but I for one, am not playing this sabotage game either. :)

+1 There should be a review system like Paypal has. If you want to contest a rating you should be able to do so and that rating would be completely deleted. Nobody’s asking for 5 star ratings for free from the Envato staff, but we need to be able to get rid of bad comments/ratings upon providing proof that the “threat” did exist.

EDIT – If you are asked for customization of course…

For my mostly people bring out rating when they think that there is something wrong with your theme or need customization, thats why they should give a reason visible to buyers why they gave that rating + we as author should be able to publicly respond to such rating.

I had a customer threaten me with a bad rating if I didn’t help them customise the theme for them. This was on a Sunday night at 8pm! Constant barrage of emails even after I said I will help but the next day as it was late. They really need to review the ratings system.

What do we need to do to make this happen? I’m sure many of us would help create(and even help with the process) the system pro-bono. I mean, many of us would prolly work pro-bono for at least 30mins/day to judge such requests if Envato would choose to “hire” a few people, so why doesn’t anybody do anything about it? Where do we need to make a statement/complaint or something?

@Mods, perhaps you can help us in mediating this with the Envato big guns. Would it help if we’d get XXXX approvals from authors to get this happen?
