Why do we need SSL?
Let’s imagine you are using 3rd party hotspot (in restaurant, cafe, shopping center, airport, etc.) to connect to Internet. You open, for example, CodeCanyon and enter your account. There are no problems when you are authorizing, because you are doing this through secure page: https://account.envato.com/ Then you browse your account pages (dashboard, withdrawal, etc.). You do this through unsecure connection, HTTP. It means that all data are transmitted un-enctypted, including cookies. There is several important cookies “_fd_session”, “signed_in”, etc. The hotspot owner can see the values of this cookies. Once hotspot owner got your cookies, he/she can set them in browser and browse through your account without any restrictions. He/she can download your items, spend all of your earninngs by purchasing other items, compromise your password, etc.

“Public WiFi isn’t always safe or reliable. With this device, as long as I have phone reception, I have an internet connection. I use it constantly as I love working in cafes around Melbourne.”
