My guess is that they found traces of long extinct life. There was a river bed with pebbles in the vicinity so something might have lived there a long time ago. I doubt they’ll find anything alive there now (unless it came with the rover) ‘cause Mars is a dead wasteland :\
Aliens! Admittedly the slightly more boring, already extinct, tiny kind of aliens with no good party tricks, but that would still be amazing. My money is on aliens.

I think we must be kidding ourselves that we have all this life on Earth and there’s nothing else out there in the vast universe… my guess that Mars use to have life on it, before it lost it’s atmosphere, so I’m going with traces of organic life elements or fossil lifeforms.
its probably traces of h2o considering they have already found dried ancient stream beds.
