it’s ignoring the second overwrite because you didn’t declare ‘em exactly the same.
example: if you make styles for footer .bottom and later try overwriting it with just .bottom, it will be ignored.. at least that’s my experience.

Actually everything worked fine, it’s just a slightly different behaviour of FireBug and FireBug Lite for Chrome. Although in FF border property is displayed like its overwritten, it is applied in both browsers.
