Hi all

I would just like to express some thoughts of mine concerning the pricing of the .psd category. I am an active author in this category, having released 7 themes as .psd.

Personally I think that $10 for a complete website design is quite low, leaving a $5 earning of each sale. Is there a future and a sales potential in this category? If not, why?

I think that the aesthetic part of a website is the number one sale factor. No matter how well a website is coded, it will just won’t work if the design sucks. So why is this category so underestimated? A well-structured, pixel perfect design, ready for html conversion should be appreciated more than $10. And as far as I know the standards for having a theme approved as a psd are quite high. So we already have a quality standard established.

I accept that the pricing model follows some supply/demand rules, but I would appreciate sharing some thoughts on this.

Why people do not buy .psd themes? Why developers do not buy .psd themes? If you are a developer, let me know your thoughts on this.

Well, i think it’s all pretty relative when it comes to pricing.

I am not sure there is going to be a pricing update on PSD templates soon, because the WP theme prices were raised recently, and IMO prices weren’t raised enough. My main concern about WP themes is that some themes still get the $35 price tag.

1 PSD Template – $10

1 Responsive HTML /CSS Template (not one-page) – $15-18

Lowest Price Tag on WP – $35

Nobody is going to make the prices of PSD Templates equal to Site Template prices.

This means that both PSD /Site Template prices must be raised.

If WP themes had a minimum price tag of $40, then a Site Template could be priced at $20-25 and a PSD template at $15.

Then $15 is too low price for full HTML template. It doesn’t make sense. In my humble opinion prices are suitable. ;)

Yes, html should be $20 then. And I am speaking as a customer here, with over 15 items bought already. Prices are too low.

I think both PSD and HTML is priced too low. A 5 $ price increase in both would help a lot, and create a safety net, for those items that barely crack the ~50 sales mark.

It’s hard to put an exact value on a PSD without comparing it to an HTML template. You start by saying $10 is to low for a PSD , but an HTML template is $15-18, so you can’t raise the price on a PSD too much without either making it look like a bad value compared to HTML templates, or raising the price of HTML too. Remember that most HTML templates also include the PSD , so a lot of users would just go for the HTML for just a little more money.
