OK not to start a fanboy war or anything, just a fact of my business. Most of my clients run Joomla, but I do have some clients and needs that I use Wordpress for. That being said I see a ton of very nice Multi-Use themes. My question/complaint is this…why is it so rare to be able to find a theme that can also arrange blogs in alphabetical order, or filter by title. Maybe I am missing a common plug in that does this, if so what is it? If not, why are all these super flexible themes always flexible in their look but not so much in the function/features?

Is this a Wordpress issue mostly, or is it really not that common that businesses would want to be able to list data in some sort of alphabetical order? Not to nitpick but half of these themes are awesome looking but totally useless in the real world without the ability for Title filtering.

Heck I even looked at some themes with Visual Builder modified for the theme and they removed the ability to filter by title. So I spent 55 to 60 on a door stop essentially, but it looks cool. it’s the most frustrating thing ever ;)

What am I missing? is there a plugin? Is there any easy “hack”, not as familiar with WP’s file structure as I am with Joomla, that’s on me, but is there an easy hack to add it? Or do designers/developers just really over look the actual flexibility and increased sales they could generate with such a simple feature, I was told WP is no longer just for blogs, but I can’t find nice themes with Title filtering, Jupiter is one…and I am super happy with it but it seems a very cmomon missing link in almost every single theme I buy.

Not knocking the creative aspect of what I see here, it’s awesome, but equally frustrating that “flexible” only seems to apply to design and not function.

I like Wordpress, just don’t find it all that flexible still. What am I missing?

Title/alpha filtering to me would almost seem core at this point, why isn’t it? I would say half my clients would have a need for that feature. It seems such a trivial thing, yet it’s very rare in a WP theme. 2014 version 3.8 and no alpha filter, I have to be missing something.

You can hack the ordering system but easier is something like http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-snap-extended/ or http://wordpress.org/plugins/a2z-alphabetical-archive-links/ or http://wordpress.org/plugins/alphabetical-list/ etc which will sort posts alphabetically

If you wanted to get knee deep in code, you just need to modify the Reference/WP_Query#Order.26_Orderby_Parameters”>order in the WP Query

Unfortunately WP doesn’t come with a function in the admin to change the order but it’s pretty simple thing to add to a options panel for the theme.

Cool, glad I asked in here, that helps also. Not the best with WP file structure yet. From plugins to code I can use the help, best to learn how Wordpress works IMO. Thanks Gareth :)
