After just one week we got a new banner on top of all pages again, which pronounces “web design from $20”. :-o

Ok, it’s microlancer, which is in fact a good idea.

But, imagine that you came from g*le and searching for a nice template. All eyes on the banner -> Webdesign from $20 -> “Oh wow! Thats cheep, why a template if I can get a whole custom design for just $20?” -> click -> no sale on themeforest.

My concern is, sales will drop again because of that big banner… Anyone else or am I just too sensitive about such banner things at the moment? :-D

It’s a sign of amateurism. No offense Envato. Your banners look “cheap” and your business will be equal to amateurism in the near future if you continue this way. It’s like we currently do with people looking for web design for $10, we tell them to go to fiverrr. Now we’ll tell them to go to Microlancer/Envato because we’re professionals and not amateurs.

Just my 2 cents.

No.

Learn what microlancer is. It won’t affect our sales in a bad way.

I know what Microlancer is, but will new visitors know it? Probably not. Thats why they may click on the banner and disappear from TF.

It’s clear to me when I see the web designs on Microlancer that this isn’t the standard of quality the Themeforest authors provide. And after all a design here costs around 35 dollars for a WordPress design , while a customized landing page on Microlancer costs around 100 dollars so the price difference is quit steep.

Also a lot of people want something instantly and don’t want to wait a couple of days / weeks untill they can get there hands on!

I wouldn’t worry about it too much ;)

That is the cheapest way to advertise and it will affect sales and buyers on envato. Top banner is definitely not a good idea. Microlancer has nothing to do with envato and it’s going to take the buyers.

That is very bad for envato authors.

I also had some mixed feelings about this, until i saw the examples. Most of them are the worst designs i have ever seen, so i won’t worry about any kind of competition :D

Most services offered on ML (i’m talking about the ones that are low prices, not the ones that are correctly prices and offer quality) are really amateurish and unprofessional as i see them. The ones that look really good have a high price, so there is no competition from my point of view.
