Hi folks,

Just have a little claim about something that is not logical here.

I’ve made a short version of one of my track, specially for a VideoHive project.
The long version is 2:16 and the short one is 0:26.
And as you should know, Envato does not allow to upload a variation seperately. I do agree with that but when it’s a special edit for a VideoHive project, i do not understand why.
Just because the buyers of the VH item will not want to pay the bigger price (14$) for the only thing he needs, the short version ! And I’m pretty sure that it will have an influence on sales of my track…

Well, what do you think you authors about this situation ? And i’m speaking only in the situation of a special edit for VH projects.

AJ encourages us to collab with VH authors but the policy is not in line with some particular situations, and AJ authors could loose a lot of sales because of that…

I totaly agree! I have the same problem, but from the other direction. I composed the longer version of an already existing track, which now will cost more.

Hello guys,

Is it necessary to sell the VH version of the track. Have you considered making a special edit for “advertising” and cross promotional purposes only? Chances are that your sales will increase by the promotion and that there is no need to try to make money off of a shorter version.

If you do a promotional version, and pass it to the VH author to use only in the preview, with the audiojungle watermark, there should be no issues.

If the buyer likes your song…they will likely follow the link to your song that the VH author put in the preview, and buy your song. If they want an edit after buying, they will usually contact you for it, if that is a service you offer.

Those are just my thoughts.

Hi Guitarjock ! :)

Im’ not sure to get what you mean by “making a special edit for “advertising” and cross promotional purposes only”.

This is where you would make an edit…..like shortening the track to make it fit the VideoHive item preview, and then add the AudioJungle watermark, and give the mp3 file to the VideoHive author to use in his video preview. He would then add a statement on the page below his preview that says something like “the music track you hear in this preview is not provided with your purchase. You can purchase the track here:....” and he would then place a link to your AudioJungle track.

You would then place a link on one of your pages linking buyers back to the VideoHive author. That is cross-promoting. It has worked well for many authors!

Ok ! I got you now ! yeah i’m aware of that, and i’m practicing a lot as you can see on my profile and on my items pages.

But the point was that Envato does not allowed us to sell a variation seperately of the original track. And this is not logical, because i’m sure that a lot of buyers will not want to buy a 14$ track only for having the short version, that will cost around 6$ if it were seperate in the logo section !
That is the point… ;) Our goal as authors here is to sale our creation…

Hi MusicPremium! Sometimes i’m making a new shorter version of the track instead of already existing one..i think it’s the only way with AJ rules at the moment..

Ah….I understand now. That actually makes sense, especailly if you are talking about Envato only allowing this for logo and ident length tracks. If this was allowed for other lengths, like say having a 4:00 track and a 2:00 track, people would be creating several different lengths of each of their tracks and all the great music on the site would become even harder than it already is to dig through.

Hey MusicPremium, I’m a big fan of your AudioJungle portfolio, keep up the good work! :) To answer your question, here’s why we do not allow variations as separate submissions:

  • We DID allow separate variations a long time ago but the library quickly became messy, the rule was abused by some authors (the variations kept coming and coming…!), it made it harder for authors to maintain their files and some customers had a hard time finding exactly what they were looking for.
  • We changed the rule not only to keep things better organized, but to help facilitate a possible future step/direction.
  • The possible future step/direction would be to allow authors to sell different length items from the SAME item page. Customers could then choose what they want all from the same page. A short version for a certain price, the full length version for a higher price, and ALL version for a separate price. Please note this is not a promise nor a guaranteed feature, but you will probably agree that this is a much better approach. And in order to get to that stage, it’s easier/better to have all variations within the same item right now and not spread throughout the library as separate items.
  • Again, let me re-iterate, this is just a possibility, but a possibility that makes sense. We sometimes have to make adjustments along the way in order to get to where we would like to go and there is often a method behind our madness. :D

Hope this helps answer your question! :)
