@gbs – we’re watching for any effect against normal sales very closely. The theory going into this is that these types of promotions will increase normal sales as it builds awareness around certain categories. Getting away from header bar promos should help on that front too. Looking to mainly promote via email/banners/affiliates/partners/social

Why not promote an entire category through header bar? We never done that experiment so far for a normal category – only the bundles deserve that? Envato’s logic is simple, exploit the header bar exposure only for quick money schemes like bundle – never used the same for promoting a new category etc.

So Envato has ways to measure drop in sales. Just wondering:

How do you measure whether newly uploaded items (recent 2 weeks) are affected or not due to bundles?

It is simple – just don’t care the state of individual new items! Problem solved!

Also I guess the following questions won’t result surprising answers but still better make sure:

- Mini bundle items included with author permission or not?
- Mini bundle percentage share stays as 50% or anything different?
- Mini bundle life time as of now is 14 days. Will there be any increment on number of days?

Asking questions because things are easily getting changed over night these days.

+1 – If it’s purely to raise awareness about a category, I don’t see the need to have a bundle.

But if you are going down the discount route anyway, why not make the whole category part of it, create some sort of discount voucher of $20, with which you can get 3 items instead of 1, but buyers can choose which ones out of the whole category, this way they have to browse the whole category and everyone benefits. Also this way they might discover a file they won’t buy within that discount but bookmark for later, or even discover an author they didn’t know.

If we already got a shopping cart now then it’s way easier to get things like discounts coupon, voucher etc., Without it, it’s not an easy math to solve, especially when you can see they have thousands of things to do now. Packing a bundle seems to be the easiest solution LOL. Pick pick pick, pick here, pick there, write some words to form an article, and boom, counting money.

I love your idea of exploring the items that has low-to-now sales, too. It shows how fair the market maker want to treat every author and item, and the contribution that the authors have given; rather than just living on some particular cash cows and make most authors feeling insecure about their decision to spend times working here.

We don’t need to go to a discount route to promote marketplaces.
