We just noticed that WordPress’ new ‘TwentyThirteen’ theme is soooooo awesome..

Maybe it’s the real power of simplicity in design huh?

By default it has single column layout, but there’s sidebar if we want it.. Of course it’s responsive and has keyboard navigation.

In case anyone missed it, the introduction is here

And we can see (and test-drive) TwentyThirteen theme on its demo page in alpha version.

And here’s quicktip from WpTuts about TwentyThirteen installation.

Hmm.. What do you think ?

I’m probably going to be all alone on this, again, but I think it’s a step backwards. WP is trying to get away from being just a blog and this goes the opposite direction. The last three years of development were focused on adding better functionality to be recognized as a CMS, why not show that off.

It’s not just the blog first style without sidebars by default. The colors and organization also bother me. I was unsure what to click or where it would take me. Having each post type a different color is fine in theory, until you see it. It confused me more than anything. I’m still not sure what I was seeing at times. When I clicked one of the post titles it took me to a page with a yellow background. I was thankful it didn’t have much text because it would not be enjoyable to read several paragraphs on that background color. To me this is more of a gimmick than a usability improvement.

I suppose the description I would give for this design is, it’s different. Just keep in mind that different isn’t the same as good. Even the TF reviewers would have rejected it. ;)

You are not alone, my thoughts exactly… In my opinion it is just some text on differently colored backgrounds. The community has shown how capable the CMS is and they only show off some post-types.

I like it.

I believe they want to point out that the big change is happening regarding post formats and how they are handled.

I think it looks amateurish at best, usability is none existent and for it to be a simple blog I see no forward thinking or following the path that they have taken the open source project in the last few years.

That’s my opinion.

Not to mention that the default theme should be mostly white…

All replies here make us to start thinking that the WordPress’ new style is being pop..

Popular..

or trendy..

or funky..

or hype..

Is that what all you guys are trying to say ?

It’s like Tumblr-ish, huh?

Personally I like the approach although I would agree that it should be more CMS oriented… Also, it is overly customized in terms of aesthetics for a WP default theme. We will see.
