Just a quick one,
I’m in the middle of upgrading my server & purchasing a few extra premium services on top. I’m doing this for the simple reason that my business is scaling (so the purchases are purely business, not personal).
Any help from UK Authors who’ve done this in the past would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I’m not based in the UK, but from my experience you can write this off anywhere in the world. This is a pure business expense, there is nothing personal about this. I definitely write this off in Spain, I could not imagine this to be any different anywhere else…
Cheers
Chris

Q: Can I write the monthly cost of my servers off against my taxes at the end of the year? Any help from UK Authors who’ve done this in the past would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,
I’ve found that leasing is the way forward – if you purchase equipment it gets complex but leasing allows you to write off 100%.
Mid last year I was about to purchase all new Apple equipment but the Mac man told me about Apple business and that will allow me to write off everything. I also lease all my software now because of this.
Hope that helps.

Hey guys,
thanks for that, just wanted to double check.
@NorthVantage, that is a good call! I will have to look into that at the start of next year when I’m to update my MBP
Thanks again!

I’m not a tax expert but from what I understand monthly expenses can be written of as operating costs but fixed costs from purchases fall under capital gains so can not be written off as business expenses as easily.

Thanks guys really appreciate it
I’m getting my books in order for next year too, filed my tax return the other day for 10/11… leaving it far too late as usual, due to my awesome organisation skills
Thanks!
