^ To anyone who quotes small part of my comment:

Home page is not the only exposure channel for new items. New items are accessible through different pages. We never know which one contributes “sales”. Nothing about personal strategies on selling; this applies to everyone from power elite to new author :D

In the future, this is why I shouldn’t call home page exposure as a myth :D

Actually you can tell, when your new item is no longer visible on the home page under a particular category, you’ll see a drop in sales. So logically and working with averages you can see what percentage of sales was coming from the home page. You don’t need to guess how it works, your sales data will tell you. Calculate how big that drop is, and you’ll understand how important those category links are, after doing this for years – you’ll start to see the patterns and see what is a myth and what is true.

As I said before sales will not decrease for TOP authors like you who have at least 1 item in TOP sales in main categories. You have traffic for all your items from your TOP item. Most of all your traffic and sales does not depend on homepage design since you power elite author. For low and medium elite authors or not elite authors new homepage will decrease sales because this is only way to get traffic for items that can’t be finded from top lists. When we release new theme we got traffic for all our items from Homepage -> New theme -> Links to our other themes. This is only way to get good sales for old items. Now this way does not work, people does not see New items and can’t sort it by category with 1 click. Now we can get new sales for old items only from search, but it does not work well to find our items (search will show only top items like yours, of course you will not loose sales).

This is true. I’m not an elite and I’ve experienced the drop of sales with a new released theme. From an average of 5-6 sales / day, they deopped at 1/ day after 4 days from innitial release. This never happened to me with the older themes. And because of low traffic I suppose, I’ve just made around 6 sales to older themes.

So Envato, if you want to support only the popular authors you shouldn’t change something, but if you want to give equal chances to rest of us (including elites with no item in popular section), you should really make a change or at least put the links back.

I’ve spent some time on my latest theme, I’ve included some popular plugins and transformed some of my older shortcodes to work with the plugin included. This tooked me more than 2 months. With the sales made so far due to this change I can barely cover the money spent on third parties plugins and again I worked for nothing. More than 2 months from my life for nothing.

Please do the change back and don’t make experiments with us anymore…

Regards

We are elite authors but after homepage changes we now have sales like you (like regular author), 5-6 sales and less per day. We lost hundreds of dollars. In weekends we have 0 sales now (before changes was 1-5).

We never have 0 sales per day before homepage changes for latest 3 years.

We even have new item released today for WordPress, but sales is very bad because nobody see New items now.

By Google Analytics stats I see that our new theme that now on Homepage checked around 900 users for all day. Usualy (before) in working days we got 1500-2000 users to item from homepage.

And the main problem that only 180 users from this count is users who clicked item on homepage!. All other users found item from category (because it on first page after release).

Themeforest have thousands of visitors per day and most of all is homepage visitors, and only 180 people clicked WordPress (most popular category) new item? This is crazy, this is not as it was before.
