Just that one thing will make my life easier. The link doesn’t work for me, but it did lead me towards the drop-down menu with the option.
How and why? If it’s only for updates and not promotional offers.
An author could easily make a basic update, then have an email all about their new service they provide on their website.
When I first read this, I liked the idea, but also thought straight away that there could be problems, not just with spamming, but also with authors who may make a lot of updates. However much we like updates, as users we don’t want a continual stream of emails.
Another possibility would be to have a weekly/monthly Envato email, which lists all the items that we have purchased and have been updated that week/month. Then the user can decide to visit the item description page and see what the updates are.

Envato could have a default msg saying:
“your purchased item has been updated, please visit the item page and download the updates (free)”
This message could be "grayed" out making it impossible to edit, just like the "email address in your profile page"
All we would have is a button saying “send update”
No one would want to send false updates to the buyer, after all they are the ones who buy our stuff and put money in our a/c’s.
I think downloads link should be rewired into something universal:
So we can put the universal link to our theme documentations, update notifications etc. With username in url, there is no way you can redirect users to their downloads page.
