I have been seeing a lot of items that have been created months ago again on the front page, i know that these items where set to hidden because they have to be updated.

Do you think this is fair or not?

(my opinion: i think it’s not fair, because everybody can set there item to hidden en resubmit there items again. I hope that the dev will work on this because i think that more and more people will do this, and afhter a while there will more updated files on the front page rather then new items)

In my opinion, no matter what the reason is, it’s not fair.

Yeah guys, it’s an issue the devs are aware of, that much I know. It’s because the soft disables are being treated the same way as the soft rejections unfortunately. It’s something that we’ve been told is going to be addresed, so we just need to deal with it for a little while still.

I think only brand new items should be featured on the front page, and that each item should be given a months worth of time on the front page… basically each new file would be thrown into a melting pot of files… all of which could randomly show up on the front page at any time, and once a particular files month is up it gets taken out of the pot. So, there could be 50 files swapping in or out or 150… you may not get your file visible every time you log in (which now it seems that right away your file is always up there), but it then has the potential to be visible to new users for a whole month.

it would be great if there is a “recently updated items” link on the menu or somewhere else. Also the item pages have to show all updates by date..

The Recent items placeholder is a little too small right of the bat… i don’t see any reason not do increase its size… at least 50%. That should help a little.

That’s a very good idea, Joe MC. No-one seems to like how the recent items work. Your method seems much fairer than the current luck of the draw system.

I’d even take it further and say that perhaps files that are of a higher worth and time investment stay up for longer.

There are precious few incentives to create involved files.

Updating your file is good enough without having to turn up front page. I think a better incentive for that is to have optional email notifications for file updates.

I totally agree… I spent quite some time on my first item here, thought I could make something different. But after an hour or so, it was already gone from the front page. Kind of dissapointing…

I really like Joe MC’s idea, that would make life much easier.
