Because they can order the service directly from there and pay through there. There is also a set amount of revisions you could offer through Microlancer. Dealing with customers via email would mean you spending weeks on customizations for those customers that are very picky and expect unlimited, lifetime revisions.

I could see how a service would be helpful if someone didn’t have much freelance experience, but most freelancers are capable of managing their own terms with clients.

It makes everything easier and adds a sense of trust and reliability because it is Envato’s own platform.

How does it make things easier? You mean the customer isn’t going to do business with you unless Envato’s involved? Then why do I get so many requests? :P

The fact that you are selling your items through Envato instead of your own website had already proven my point. :D

The two are related but not quie the same. Freelance work that I get from selling items is how I pay the majority of my bills. And as someone who’s been dealing with clients for many years, I’ve never had a problem negotiating terms, and have never once thought that I needed an outside source to help me with my business. Because that’s what it is, my business. And as such, it would be a complete waste of money to just hand 30% of it over to someone when I don’t need any help in the first place.

Don’t get me wrong, Microlancer is a nice startup and I’m sure lot’s of people are going to benefit from it. But in my opinion, asking Envato to advertise Microlancer next to our items is a very strange request. When buyers want something customized, they’re going to contact you directly. Microlancer isn’t suddenly going to bring in more customization jobs from what you’re already getting. Selling items is what brings in jobs, period.

This is true! How about an option if you want the ad or not?

Hey all, great discussion going on here, I’ve shared it with the rest of the Microlancer team. We’re still considering how marketplace integration and any kind of affiliate program might work, but some form of it is on the roadmap, so we’re thinking around this issue internally.

Don’t forget! We have only launched in the Graphics and Design category, and are rapidly expanding into other categories like video/3D/code etc in the future, based on demand. If you have a suggestion for a new category – let us know: www.microlancer.com/contact
