How do we know if it’s allowed to use?
How about this http://www.flickr.com/photos/rogueinteriordesigns/4843216091/ is that allowed to use without permission?

According to that page, you can make commercial use of it but you must attribute the work

Okay, but what about “Request to license rogue-designs’ photos via Getty Images”? This make me unsure.
Smartik saidIn my opinion, if you do not want to give credits to the original creator of the photo but you still want to use that image, then you need to buy it via Getty Images.

Most likely that it is only necessary to buy it if you cannot comply with the restrictions given under Creative Commons licence.

What about using it but you cropped it. Is it allowed?
themepixels saidAgain, as in the licence page (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/deed.en ), you are free to remix (to adapt the work). Hence, I believe that cropping is a form of adaptation as well, and is permitted by the licence.
