I decided to create this thread, because I could no find any good answer anywhere.
I just got a theme rejection and one of the reasons is that the file package contains font file(s) in the main download.
The reviewer also wrote Please remove all font file(s) from the main download, and ensure that non-standard fonts used in your item preview are documented in the item description and inside a help file within your main .zip
I also seen this old thread http://blog.themeforest.net/general/font-licensing-for-the-web/
Now I’m a bit confused: how can I use some custom fonts on my theme? I would like to use at least this one http://somerandomdude.com/work/iconic/ and the license says “Original or Modified Versions of the Font Software may be bundled, redistributed and/or sold with any software, provided that each copy contains the above copyright notice and this license.”
I would like to hear something from the reviewers ar at least clarify if this ( http://blog.themeforest.net/general/font-licensing-for-the-web/ ) is still valid.
Thanks in advance :nerdy:

Hi guys,

We’re currently clarifying our policy on this subject but for the time being we’re asking that authors do not include font files in their item download files. You can still use custom fonts, but the buyer will need to download and install the font themselves rather than having it included in the download files.

This means you need to document the custom font requirements in the item description and item help file as well as how to install the font(s).

Will there be some sort of announcement when this all gets fixed up? So we can update our themes and have people stop complaining about it.

Also, what if we created our own font icon files?

thanks!

Yes, we’ll have some form of announcement. If you created your own font icon files you can continue using those, but, as usual, include information about it in the item documentation and item description.

Any clarification on this yet? Is it allowed to put font files (with licences that allows it) directly in the theme zip file now, 3 months later? We’re looking at pushing out some theme updates and would like to make it easier for the customer by including it directly – some seem to struggle to add it afterwards.

From the League of Movable Type in our case.
